Minerals Review
These suggestions are intended for
use at the conclusion of the unit study.
- Take a walk around the school grounds. See how many minerals and
mineral products the students can identify in their environment.
- Visit a dam or factory. Ask your guide to point out mineral
products used in their facility. Suggest minerals and their uses that may be appropriate.
Have students discuss what they saw and how minerals played a part in making things work.
- Play a mineral identification game. In the first part, have 18
students represent the various minerals studied. As their mineral is called out, have them
move to one side of the room if they are metallic and the other if they are nonmetallic.
Have the remaining students represent a product made from various minerals. When their
produce is called out, they go and stand next to the students representing their resource
mineral. Students may make cards to carry showing their mineral name or product to make
the game easier.
